World Class Jumps
Conference 2008

On Saturday and Sunday 8th & 9th
November there was a “World Class Jumps Conference” held at Loughborough
University.

On the Saturday it was the Long and High Jumps, with
myself and Garry Roylance attending the Long Jump conference and coaching
clinic with former Olympic Champion Lynn Davies (above) and current
World Record holder Mike Powell (below). There were former and current
athletes from Britain and around the world, and we had many opportunities to
mix, ask questions and offer opinions.

On the Sunday we attended the Triple Jump sessions which
was mainly concentrating on the development of Womens Triple Jumping, and as
the National Squads were there training that week-end, we took some individual
time out of the lecture to observe and even offer some advice during a session.
(Don’t be surprised if you soon see Chris Tomlinson’s jumping improve now!!)
There was also the Pole Vault sessions held that day which
Kevin Davies attended, and he is now full of enthusiasm and knowledge.
Overall it was a worthwhile experience which I feel more
coaches from our club would have benefited from, especially if they have any
prospective jumpers, and next year will be concentrating on Speed.
