SPORTSHALL BLACKPOOL SUNDAY 15.02.09

Well folks, that's it. BWFAC are no longer the Lancashire Sportshall Champions. After winning in 2006/7 and 2007/8, we had to concede the title to arch rivals Preston Harriers.

Going into the third and final meeting at Blackpool Sports Centre on Sunday 15th February, we were joint top with Preston, following our victory in the first meeting and Preston’s marginal win in the second fixture, where they rallied their troops successfully. Looking around the Sports Centre on Sunday it was as though we were right in the middle of a Preston Harriers club training night!!! Blue everywhere!! It looked as though virtually every eligible Preston club athlete had turned out for them!!

BWFAC had the usual quality athletes out with some exceptional performances and the best will shown by all, but just couldn't compete with the sheer volume. In every event it seemed as though there were four and five Harriers to our one or two!!

The quality in the BWFAC team showed however as overall, out of the three meetings, we had four - yes four - out of the six individual age group wins!!

There was a clean sweep in the boys with the U11, U13 & U15's all coming out on top, as did the U11G team. We were second in the U13G and third in theU15G, so it wasn’t all doom and gloom. We had two Athletes of the Match on the day, with Dominic Lavelle U11B (pictured) and Luis Blyth U13B adding to the previous winners in Finn Walker, David Jones, Dominic Broughton and Adam Snape. There was also overall Athlete of the Series wins for Finn Walker  (pictured) and Adam Snape.

In all there were only twelve points between the two teams over the three events, that's just how close it was.

I would like to thank the coaches who supported the team, and congratulate the BWFAC athletes who showed the commitment and quality to force such a tight finish, and Preston Harriers  (pictured) who showed their whole club is committed to not only the Sportshall League, but to getting one over their old rivals!!!

Only nine months ’til battle recommences!! Results to follow.
