Success for BWFAC Young Athletes

I would personally like to thank every athlete who has represented the club in this season’s National Young Athletes League (NATYAL) series, culminating in competing at the Auxiliary Final in Birmingham on Saturday 5th September.

Not only the athletes, but also the coaches who have worked with the Team Managers in getting the best athletes in the best events, and the parents who have taken to the track and field in various guises ensuring a full compliment of officials at every event.

Without all the hard work and commitment shown this year, the club wouldn’t have been able to experience a wonderful day at Birmingham where many individual personal bests were smashed, several medals won and at least four new BWFAC records set. There was excitement, tension and enjoyment throughout the day, with every athlete, parent and coach lapping up the occasion and competing against the Giffnock North team from north of the border to be the loudest supporters!!! Although I think I was the loudest there jumping up and down on Erika Swinnerton’s shoulders screaming on Louis Schofield on the last leg of the U17M 4x100m relay pulling back a 5m deficit to win it on the line after Dom Broughton had run a 3rd leg bend better than Usain Bolt. Omar Fredrick, opening his stride down the back straight after taking the baton from the ever dependable George Davies, was a sight to behold!! Well done lads.

There were many more highlights on the day including last ditch dipping on the line and sinews strained on the field. There is not room to mention them all, except to say they all added to the overall marvellous experience.

As a Team Manager this season, I have pulled my hair out (and I’ve not got a lot) on many occasions and re jigged the teams so many times for various reasons, but it was all worth it just to see the athletes out on the Alexander Stadium track and field, giving their all in the pursuit of BWFAC glory!!

All I hope is that we can build on this year’s success. Let’s not forget that we were competing in a lower league just two seasons ago!!! So with continued hard work and dedication we can achieve even more in the future.

Once again, well done, thank you and keep up the good work.
