Blackpool & Fylde AC Presentation Evening

At the Blackpool Wyre & Fylde AC annual dinner and presentation at Blackpool FC, three club athletes won three trophies for their performances during the last twelve months. Arnold schoolgirl Danielle Bamber, won the President’s trophy for the best multi-event performance, male or female, confirming her position as the club’s No. 1 all-round athlete and national Top 10 ranking. Bamber also won the Langen Hesson plaque for the most improved athlete in the 15-17 girls age group and the Bernard Berry Memorial for the best U17 female track performance.
The
club’s veteran champion Carolyn Robbins (pictured) carried off the Cartmell
Dragon Trophy for the most outstanding veteran athlete, in addition to the
veterans’ cross-country trophy and senior women’s track and field award. Tom
Cunningham was the third member of the club’s elite squad to win three
trophies. Cunningham won the coveted BAe Trophy for the best male middle
distance runner coupled with the club road runner trophy and the U20 men’s
track and field award.
The club’s major award, the Quayle trophy, named after a former Blackpool mayor and club president, was again won by Carl Myerscough for his fourth place in the Commonwealth Games shot putt earlier in the year. Runners-up Langen Hesson trophies went to international discus thrower Kara Nwidobie Sharpe and junior distance runner, Antony Ford.
The awards were presented by former international middle distance runner John Blackledge, deputy director of Blackpool tourism. A presentation was also made to ladies senior coach, Norma McElwee, who recently retired after 25 years dedicated club service.
