Indoor
Delights
In a weekend in which the website was dominated by the club
vest, it was nice to see Blackpool Wyre and Fylde athletes compete in the
Sheffield Indoor open, not because they wanted the club vest to be recognised,
but for the love of their sport. I like it when people ask me which club
I belong to, but that's just me!
Thank goodness the competition was indoors, I was half expecting
to see Noah's Ark pass us on the motorway, so much rain came down! The
standard of the meeting was very high, Sam Ellis from the City of Sheffield AC
was there and all you 800m runners will know him, he ran the 600m in 1min
17.66, and that's after just six weeks training following his knee
operation! For all the pole vaulters Rhys Searles went over the bar at 4.50m.
As for us Kassidy Knight and Katy Wyper
(pictured) made the trip up to
Sheffield. Kassidy ran well in the 60m achieving 8.90s - only 4
hundredths off her PB, with her yet to start indoor training, I am sure a new
PB is not far away. Kassidy also entered the long jump and jumped 3.98m
which isn't at all bad considering she arrived, placed her water bottle on the
run up and just ran for it! So well done Kass!
Katy Wyper also took part in the 60m for seniors. This
girl lined up against older male athletes and in her first competition as an
U17, she set a new PB of 8.25 finishing 3rd behind Glenn Farrugia (a 20 yr
old male from Malta) and Jayne Norton from Middlesborough. Like Kassidy,
Katy has also to start her indoor training and to see these girls racing older
athletes with a passion and commitment to their sport was well worth the trip -
Well done girls you were a joy to watch!
